Les Mineraux de Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines

The Silver Valley mines operated for over a thousand years, bringing prosperity to the region before falling into oblivion. From the XVI century, chroniclers told of marvellous discoveries of crystalline silver. In the XVIII century scholars of nature boasted of the numerous species of minerals to be found in the over one hundred mines there. These minerals acquired worldwide renown among collectors.

Eight new species of minerals were first described from this region, which is therefore their recognised type locality. The Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines mineral fair has made the region an international showcase for the wonders of the mineral world. This richly-illustrated book offers you a panorama of the minerals found in the valley thanks to the generous help from several museums and from many amateurs.
